Georgia and Armenia have agreed to resume the railway service suspended last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic
The news was announced by Georgia's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava at a press briefing after the government meeting. She said the first train will leave June 15 Yerevan for Georgian Black Sea port and resort town of Batumi.
"I want to say that the railway communication between Armenia and Georgia has been restored. The first train will leave Yerevan for Batumi through Tbilisi on June 15. This means that tourists from our allied, neighboring country will come to Georgia, to our Black Sea resorts, to our capital , to other tourist destinations," TASS cited Turnava as saying.
Earlier, on June 1, Georgian government opened the country's land borders to foreign citizens, which had been closed since March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Foreign citizens entering Georgia must complete an online application before crossing the border, and present a document confirming vaccination against COVID-19 (both doses) or a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before the departure. However, in the latter case, foreign citizens will have to take another test in Georgia within 72 hours of entry. - 0--
